Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner aka Sting is one of Britain’s greatest talents ever. He is a singer with a big strong voice and a bigger heart. He is multi-talented with skills in singing, song-writing, acting and political activism. The 59 year old is also a philanthropist. He was appointed to the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2002. It may come as a rare surprise to find ones hands clasping cheap Sting tickets. These are very rare, if not impossible to find.
Before he started his solo career, Sting was the lead vocalist, song-writer and bassist for the rock group ‘The Police.’ The band was in its time a legend in the music industry. Formed in 1977 in London, the group consisted of Sting, Stewart Copeland and Henry Padovani, who was later replaced by Andy Summers. Together they won six Grammy Awards and managed to get five albums to the top, though their most successful and notable work by far has always been ‘Every breath you take’ which they released in 1983.
Sting released his first Solo Album ‘The Dream of the Blue Turtles’ in 1985. That was when the availability of cheap Sting tickets is thought to have ceased to exist. He rocketed into the world of Platinum, Double Platinum and Triple Platinum. The first was for the song ‘All for One’, in collaboration with Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams, which was the OST for the movie ‘The Three musketeers’ and his only song to top the US charts. The Double Platinum was for the single ‘Be still my Beating heart’, among others, which he had written for his mother who had recently passed away. The Triple Platinum was for his first solo album ‘The Dream of the Blue Turtles’ and ‘Ten Summoners Tales.’
Among his other talents the one Sting is also good at is acting. He has so far either acted in or lent his voice to characters in over twenty films and animations. Never far from the television screen, he has also appeared as a guest in shows like ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Ally Mcbeal.’ Incidentially he was so good at it that he was even sued on the latter by a fan for appearing to be singing to the fan’s wife.
A man with a golden heart, Sting has always supported one cause after another throughout his career. Among his most famous works are ‘We are the World’ and ‘Do they know it’s Christmas?’ He has worked on other projects with Bob Geldof, another celebrity philanthropist, towards the fight against world hunger. He teamed up with Bruce Springsteen and Peter Gabriel on a six week worldwide tour ‘Human Rights Now!’ to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He released a single ‘They Dance Alone’ towards the protest of the troubles of mothers, wives and daughters of the victims of the Augusto Pinochet regime in Chile. His latest work was for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. He performed ‘Driven to Tears’ at the telethon held to help the people. Maybe it is true that cheap Sting tickets will remain a myth.
